Shown here (L to R) is Conrail engine #4446 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are E44 (C-C) electrics built by General Electric and rated at 4,400 horsepower each. #4446 was constructed for the Pennsylvania Railroad in October of 1962 and rebuilt as an E44A in October of 1967. To forestall any delays to Amtrak, as well as keep its own traffic moving, CR stationed a unit outside the tunnel for just such an occasion. Hopefully, he didnt get too much work. We see the E 44 assigned for todays task at Penn Station. |
